Carol E. Mayer
Carol E. Mayer, Ph.D. is head of the curatorial and in-terpretation department at the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she is responsible for the Oceanic and World Ceramics collections. Her regional interests include Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Zealand, and British Columbia.
Dr. Mayer’s research explores the complex intersections among museum collections, contemporary art practices, and traditional ways of knowing. Her current research uses early traveler and missionary collections to investigate the legacies of early collecting practices. Given her broad collections responsibilities, she also conducts ongoing research on intellectual and intangible property rights and the exploration of the potency of objects.
